	A pharmacist accesses the eHealth Cross-Border System (eCBS), where they are required to authenticate and verify their identity. Subsequently, after selecting the service “Cross-Border Electronic Prescription Dispensation” (eDispensation, eD), they choose the relevant Member State’s eCBS, enter the patient information required by that Member State, and proceed with dispensing the prescription. A physician accessing the NCPeH application selects the cross-border functionality on the platform, meaning they will operate as an NCPB. The physician then selects the patient’s country and submits a request to retrieve the Patient Health Summary (PHS) of the European citizen/patient, after authenticating the patient based on the valid identity document in the country of residence and entering the patient’s unique identifiers as defined by each Member State for NCP purposes.

Through the cross-border gateway of NCPeH CY, the request is transmitted to the corresponding system of the patient’s country of origin and insurance, from which the patient’s Health Summary (PSB) is retrieved in XML and PDF format. The files containing the patient’s PSB are transferred to the physician’s computer without being stored in the central infrastructure of the eHealth Authority (EHA). The physician is only permitted to view the patient’s data for cross-border health service purposes and is not authorized to edit any patient information.
